Happy St. Patrick’s Day! While we normally think of this holiday as one to spend with friends and family, there’s plenty you can do to include your dog or cat, too! Between St. Patty’s Day recipes, dog-friendly green foods, and all sorts of activities and games, you’re sure to feel pretty lucky once you’re done celebrating with your pet!
St. Patrick’s Day-themed recipes
Pet “Beer”
While real beer (or any alcoholic beverage) is unsafe for pets, you can “brew” them an alternative that’s just as tasty.
What You’ll Need:
- Water
- Super Snouts Firm Up! Powder
- Your pet’s favorite water bowl
Directions:
- In their favorite bowl, mix water and Firm Up!
- Serve and enjoy
Green-themed Lick Mat
Otherwise known as our Everything-but-the-Leprechaun Lick Mat, you might be a little green with envy when you see how much your dog enjoys this spread!
What You’ll Need:
- A (green) lick mat
- Bocce’s Brushy Bites
- Plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt
- Chopped Celery
- Thinly-sliced Cucumbers
- Green Beans
- Optional: Ark Naturals Soft Brushless Toothpaste for a garnish
Directions:
- Blend together Greek yogurt and spinach for some extra luck
- Spoon yogurt onto lick mat and spread evenly
- Add your Brushy Bites and vegetables (bonus points if you try to make a shamrock shape)
- Garnish with your Brushless Toothpaste
- Serve and enjoy!
Corned Beef and Hash
When you think of St. Patrick’s Day, you might think of corned beef and hash. While the traditional Irish meal is not safe for our pets to consume, we do have some alternatives that might satisfy their craving.
Freeze-Dried Treats
Nothing beats single-ingredient freeze-dried treats, especially when they’re made by Bocce’s! Choose from chicken, lamb, or—in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day—beef for a quick and tasty treat perfect for the occasion.
My Perfect Pet
My Perfect Pet makes it so easy to give your dog (or cat!) a safe alternative to corned beef and hash. Our favorite “dupe” for the recipe would have to be Knight’s Beef Blend, which is made with beef, sweet potatoes, green beans, and cranberries.
Pet-safe green foods
You can also celebrate with some tasty pet-safe green foods. We love:
- Spinach, which is rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
- Cucumbers, which are low calorie and hydrating.
- Zucchini, which is high in protein and, like cucumber, hydrating.
- Celery, which doubles as a crunchy treat great for supporting heart health.
St. Patty’s Day activities
Play a themed game
Our favorite is Hide the Shamrock. Set up a scavenger hunt by taking their favorite treat and stashing it under paper shamrocks. This activity is not only fun, but great for mental enrichment and stimulation! When we play Hide the Shamrock, we love to use Bocce’s Brushy Bites as our treat of choice. Plus, they’re green!
Visit a dog bar
There’s no better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than by hitting up your local dog bar with your pup in tow. Dog bars are a great way to have a drink or two while hanging out with other pet parents. And, like the name suggests, they’re always pet-friendly!
